What is an unconference?
An unconference is a participant-driven meeting where attendees create the agenda and actively engage in discussions, promoting collaborative and flexible learning.
The spirit of the event is to share and learn from others. Please note that if you have nothing to share, maybe this is not the right place for you.
What is the primary language of the unconference?
The primary language of the unconference is English. If all attendees of a breakout session agree, it is possible to conduct the session in another language.
Where will the unconference take place?
Who can take part?
Anyone who is comfortable in FileMaker development and wishes to share their ideas, thoughts and solutions.
How do I take part?
Please click here to register.
How will it differ from dotfmp?
Our goal is to keep the dotfmp spirit alive. It will be an unconference with a strong focus on idea sharing. We chose a venue with multiple rooms to accommodate several breakout sessions simultaneously.
Who else is taking part?
Find the list of attendees here.
How long should session last?
While there is no set duration for the sessions, we recommend keeping them between 30 and 45 minutes (except for Show and Tell). Please make sure that you allow enough time for discussion afterwards.
Where can I submit my session proposal?
You can add your session proposal to the schedule.
Your session - what it could and should not be
Vienna Calling focusses on the interactivity of sessions and the engagement of all participants. We encourage all participants to take the stage, speak freely about their ideas concepts, challenges, technologies, experiences, …
Sessions should/can:
- … be enaging. We meet in a spirit of curiosity. Just because one has the stage does not mean one can preach.
- … not be product demonstrations. If you want to present your product, please refer to the Sponsoring page.
- … focus more on function than on form. We are all seasoned enough to be more impressed by a good idea than by a sleek PowerPoint.
- … be spontaneous. If a group finds interest in a subject over coffee, make a session of it. Book a room!
Please keep in mind that bigger is not always better. The bigger the room the harder it is to keep up the engagement.
How much is a ticket?
The Early-Bird Ticket costs EUR 500,- (till Nov. 30th 2024)
After that the regular ticket price is EUR 600,-
Why do we charge VAT on invoices that are sent abroad?
We checked this with our tax consultant - in fact we have to add VAT because the conference is in the same country as our company seat, so it is a domestic service.
What are the general terms and sales conditions?

What hotel is the conference in? / Hotel recommendations
Vienna Calling is not in a hotel. MuseumsQuartier is not a hotel. There are plenty of hotels in walking distance spanning the full plethora of price and service range. Please choose what suits you best. If you like, you can post your hotel in the atttendees list, only available to other registered attendees. This might leed to a "clustering" of sorts.

Public Transport
Public transport is great in Vienna. You can reach any place in the city within about an hour, simply on public transport. To use it, you need a ticket. Although generally the system is trust based (nobody hinders you to board a tram, bus or underground without a ticket), there are controllers asking for tickes every now and then. If you are then unable to produce a valid ticket, you could face heavy fines. So please buy your tickets to save yourself the stress and help us maintain our excellent service fore everyone.
Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines located in the airport's arrivals area, at train and subway stations, in trams and busses, or via the Wiener Linien mobile app or here:
https://www.wienerlinien.at/web/wl-en/tickets
A single journey ticket within Vienna costs €2.40.
Validation:
Ensure you validate your ticket before boarding by stamping it at the blue machines found at the entrance of underground stations and on buses and trams.
Multi Use Travel Passes:
If you plan to use public transport multiple times during your stay, consider purchasing a travel pass (24-hour, 48-hour, or 72-hour) for unlimited travel within Vienna's core zone.
What about Security?
Vienna is one of the most secure cities you will ever visit. Street violence is so rare, it is in national news if anything happens. Pickpocketing does happen, so we advise you to be careful in street cafés, crowded squares or on public transport.
What is the tipping culture in Vienna?
Tipping is understood to be a show of appreciation. It is customary to tip about 10% if the service was right. Tipping on TakeAway or self-service is not the norm.
